I recently replayed the original in HD thanks to the old Windows 3.1 version being resizable, and even to this day it is ridiculously addictive. The original of course is a great game and many times I found it even more addictive than some of the other greats. I would love to see what you guys could do with that formula. So this of course makes me think that there's only one Micropose 90s 4x TBS great left unconquered, Sid Meier's Colonization! I for one welcome our new TBS overlords, and I would like to remind Amplitude that as a retro gaming youtuber and promoter I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their forums and store pages. Anno, which feels more like a city-building game akin to Settlers (or Tropico) with some colonization theme, but is unlike Colonization or the other games I have mentioned.Very excited to hear the news! Released just 2 years after Colonization, and at the same year as Civ 2, CotNW brings an interesting mix between 4X and a wargame. One of my two favourites and a game that really needs a modern remake, as it does a lot of things that are nowadays celebrated as revolutionary innovations in 4X genre. Conquest of the New World: Deluxe Edition Still, from all games, it has probably the biggest existing community and boatload of complex mods. Notably, it didn't really support building-up and the turn-limited (and quickly growing colonial forces) forced one to rush instead. It has quite a lot of mechanical changes, compared the original.

The official remake, which is not really remake, but essentially a mod on Civ IV (which also shows how strong the Civ IV engine was for modding). However, it is in development hell, the AI is lacking, and personally, I am not happy with the UI, speed of turns or graphics (despite that I love Civ 2, which has a similar type of graphics) Civilization IV: Colonization
It is in semi-decent finished state and can be easily modded. Transporting resources takes a lot of time and its shame that natives are reduced to second-rate player. Still great, although I think it sometimes freezes and the UI is a bit lacking if one wants to create a big centralized empire with a lot of colonies. I love economic games where you can transform economic power into a military one.
